Paolo Banchero was the #1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft out of Duke, and by the time the 2022-23 card season arrived, Panini’s full lineup carried his rookie cards. That’s why there is no single “Banchero rookie” — there’s a whole class of 2022-23 rookies, from paper base cards printed in bulk to one-of-one rookie patch autographs.
This page is the map of that class: every tier, what defines it, what doesn’t count as a rookie at all, and where to go for the detail on each.
Every price on this page comes from live eBay listings and completed sales. We never publish values of our own, and we never invent card numbers or print runs — the listings show exactly how each card is numbered.
Start here: which rookie are you actually looking for?
Most people arrive at “Banchero rookie cards” with one of five jobs in mind. Find yours, then jump straight to the page that answers it.
| If you want to… | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Own one iconic Banchero rookie | Prizm — the Silver Prizm, graded | The card the market treats as the Banchero rookie |
| Own a real rookie cheaply | Hoops or paper Donruss | True 2022-23 rookies at the entry tier |
| Build a rainbow | Prizm parallels rainbow | The colour ladder, tier by tier |
| Buy a signed rookie | Banchero autographs | Different products, different risks, different comps |
| Work out what your card is | Is my card a rookie card? | A three-question test, about twenty seconds |
Not sure what a card is worth once you’ve identified it? That’s what is a Paolo Banchero card worth — the four variables that set any Banchero price, and how to pull an accurate sold comp.
The 2022-23 rookie class, tier by tier
Panini held the exclusive NBA licence in Banchero’s rookie season, so his rookies are spread across that one manufacturer’s whole catalogue. They sort cleanly into three tiers.
| Tier | Products | What defines it |
|---|---|---|
| Entry / paper | NBA Hoops, Donruss (Rated Rookie), Chronicles | High print runs, paper stock, genuinely rookie — the accessible way in |
| Chrome flagships | Prizm, Select, Donruss Optic, Mosaic | Chromium stock and colour parallel rainbows; where the mainstream money sits |
| Premium autos / patches | Contenders (Rookie Ticket), National Treasures (RPA), Immaculate, Flawless | On-card signatures, memorabilia, serial numbering — the apex |
A few things worth understanding about that shape:
- Chronicles is a sampler, not a set. It packages many sub-brands, each with its own parallel ladder — which is why a “Chronicles Banchero” can mean a dozen different cards. The Chronicles review untangles it, including the Chronicles vs. Chronicles Draft Picks trap.
- Select’s three tiers (Concourse, Premier, Courtside) are the same player in the same product at three different scarcity levels. Get the tier wrong and your comp is wrong.
- Optic is the chrome sibling of paper Donruss, sharing the Rated Rookie designation. Collectors routinely mix the two up in listings.
- The entry tier is not a lesser rookie. A Hoops Banchero is as genuinely a rookie card as a Silver Prizm. It is simply far more plentiful.

What is not a Banchero rookie card
Three families get sold as rookies constantly, and only one of them is close.
- 2022-23 Prizm Draft Picks and other college products. These are his first licensed cards, but they predate his NBA debut, show a Duke uniform, and carry no RC mark. Collectible, not rookies — the Draft Picks review covers what they actually are.
- 2023-24 and later cards, including the Topps/Fanatics-era releases after the licence changed hands. Real cards, wrong season. The season-by-season timeline shows the whole progression.
- Unlicensed “customs” and reprints. No Panini logo, no NBA licence, frequently a signature of unknown origin. Worth nothing as rookies.
If you’re holding a card and want a definitive answer, run it through the is-my-card-a-rookie test.
How to run the chase
- Decide your budget tier before your card. Raw entry rookie, mid-grade slab, or high-grade chase — each is a different market, and mixing them is how people overpay.
- Pin the exact card. Product, tier, parallel, numbering. “Banchero rookie” is not a comp; “Silver Prizm in a PSA 10” is.
- Buy graded for anything valuable. Modern chrome lives and dies on centering; a PSA/BGS/SGC slab settles both authenticity and condition.
- Comp against sold prices, not asking prices. Completed sales are the market. Everything else is a hope.
- Discard the noise — lots, reprints, customs, and any listing whose photo doesn’t match the card described.
The full comping mechanics, including the ordinal scarcity ladder his cards sit on, are on the card values page.
Before you buy — or grade
- Measure borders with the card centering tool before assuming a raw chrome rookie is a 10 candidate.
- Run fees, turnaround and the grade-for-grade spread through the grading ROI calculator before submitting anything.
- Chasing the class rather than one card? The collection value tracker keeps each rookie anchored to real sold comps.
Buying a signed rookie changes the risk profile entirely — that’s the one Banchero category with a real forgery problem. Read how to spot a fake Banchero autograph first, and use the autographs page to identify which signed product you’re looking at.
